Gimlet

This entry is filed under Drinks.

A good old fashioned cocktail – cool and refreshing and welcome any time of the year but especially in summer. Gimlets have been around forever – since the early 1920’s and can be made with either gin or vodka. They are similar in style to Mojito’s.

Makes: 2
Effort Level: Easy

Ingredients:
2 tbsp caster sugar
2 limes
100ml vodka or gin
15g fresh mint leaves
Ice cubes
Club soda water

Equipment:
Chopping board and sharp knife
Measuring jug
Pestal and mortar or rolling pin
Citrus reamer or juicer

Strip 15g mint leaves off their stems and place in measuring jug.

Add 2 tbsp caster sugar and the juice of one lime.

Muddle to release the oil by crushing down the leaves with the end of a rolling pin (or use a pestal and mortar).

Add 100ml vodka or gin and stir well.

Half filled two tumblers with crushed ice, pour over the minted alcohol and top up with sparkling water to taste.

Chin Chin!
